Travel Nursing Frequently Asked Questions

What is travel nursing?

+

Travel nursing lets you take short-term (typically 13-week) nursing contracts at facilities across the country while earning more than permanent staff nurses.

How much do travel nurses make?

+

Travel nurse pay varies by specialty and location. ICU and OR nurses in high-demand states can earn $2,500-$4,000/week including tax-free stipends.

How do I get started?

+

Create your free profile on MaraStaffing, specify your specialty and preferences, and a recruiter will reach out within 24 hours with matching opportunities.

Do I need a compact nursing license?

+

Not always. Many assignments are in compact states where your home state license applies. We help you obtain licenses in non-compact states and we pay for them.

Does MaraStaffing provide housing?

+

Yes. You can choose company-arranged fully-furnished housing or take a tax-free housing stipend to find your own.

When do benefits start?

+

Medical, dental, and vision benefits begin on your first day of your first assignment with no waiting period.

How far in advance should I apply?

+

We recommend applying 4-8 weeks before your desired start date though we can sometimes place nurses in 1-2 weeks for urgent openings.

Can I bring my family or pets?

+

Absolutely. Many travel nurses bring their families. Pet-friendly housing is available.

What happens between assignments?

+

You can take time off, pick up per diem shifts, or start your next contract immediately. Benefits continue for up to 14 days between assignments.

Can I extend my assignment?

+

Yes most facilities welcome extensions. Talk to your recruiter and they will coordinate directly with the facility about extension opportunities.
